What is Coated&Smoothskin Neoprene?

Coated neoprene is coating a layer of polyurethane polymer (titanium) to the surface of neoprene skin or cell, which can improve its strength and reduce the friction of water sports. Coating is mostly processed on 100% CR skin and used in high-end wetsuits, while coated neoprene cell is applied to the lining of wetsuits.

Smoothskin is the top and bottom surfaces of raw Neoprene Sponge. After being sliced into sheets, the finish of the middle layers is cell, named neoprene cell. We can see that one neoprene sponge only has two layers of smooth skin that is much less than the latter. That explains why smooth skin neoprene is limited in the market.

Smooth skin neoprene
Structure: smooth skin neoprene (CR, SCR, SBR) + Nylon, Super stretch, thermal fabric, etc.

How is coated neoprene fabric made? Production Process

The below flow illustrates the production process of coated neoprene fabric.

Step 1Slicing Up

Slice up Neoprene Sponge, 100% CR, SCR or SBR, from 40mm thick into the specific thickness of neoprene sheets, 0.8mm to 10mm.

Step 2Coating&Lamination

Coating titanium on one side of the neoprene sponge and laminated fabric on the other side.

Step 3Inspection

Inspect the neoprene fabric in terms of thickness, lamination and dimension, to make sure products meet all the order requirements.

Step 4Packing

Pack all products in roll or on pallets as required. Ready for shipment.

To clear your concerns, here are some facts you need to know about neoprene fabric and us.

Do you have sea water-resistant glue?

Yes. For all neoprene fabric applied for sea water sports, we will use toluene resistant glue to avoid the splitting of fabric and neoprene sponge.

Do you do coating on smooth skin neoprene or neoprene cell?

We can do both. Coated smooth skin neoprene is normally used for the outside of aqua sports garments. While coated neoprene cell is used for the lining of the aqua sports garments.

Why is there not enough smooth skin neoprene in the market?

Because one piece of unsliced neoprene sponge can only have two pieces of smooth skin neoprene sheet (top and bottom), while can have multiple neoprene cell.

Do you do coating on SBR or SCR?

The cost of coating is high and it’s mostly used for high-end wetsuits or triathlons. SBR or SCR can’t meet the requirements of these applications. Therefore, we only do coating on 100% CR.

Do you offer free samples?

A4 size or so samples are free. If whole sheets or custom color is needed, small fee has to be charged.

Do you offer free samples delivery?

Unfortunately, no. A small fee has to be paid, which can be refunded from the first order. Economical shipping is available to minimize the delivery cost. Please contact us for the real-time shipping cost.
